A cardboard box can offer a sheltered spot from which a cat can watch the world. Many cats seek enclosed places, particularly when an environment is unfamiliar.

A little privacy

Place a clean, sturdy box somewhere quiet and let your cat investigate at its own pace. Leave an easy exit and never trap the cat inside.

Keep it safe

Remove staples, tape, handles, and loose packing materials. Replace boxes that become wet or chewed. Offer several resting choices rather than assuming all cats like the same thing.

A change worth noticing

Hiding much more than usual, especially alongside reduced eating or other changes, deserves a conversation with your veterinarian.
